24 Hour Church of Elvis Tee

Long before Portland was a brand, it had a coin-operated chapel, neon-lit and totally unhinged. The 24 Hour Church of Elvis (open never, always, and sometimes) sat downtown like a holy jukebox for the bizarre. Created by artist Stephanie G. Pierce, it housed talking mannequins, bad marriages for a buck, questionable advice, and, of course, a computer-ordained King.
Was it a church? A satire? An art installation run on recycled parts and divine sarcasm? Yes. It was also glitter and glitch, pop culture and punk spirit, a shrine to the absurd in a city that hadn't yet cleaned up its act. No gods. No masters. Just Elvis, neon, and exact change only.
Wear it if weird is your religion.
