FoPo has always been a little sideways — literally. Sliced by Foster Road like a cracked record, this corner of SE Portland never tried to be trendy, it just was. Once full of working-class families, Eastern European bakeries, and corner taverns with names like Bob & Alice’s, it’s where renters went when the rent actually needed to be low.

Now it’s part punk house, part pho joint, part backyard chicken rebellion — with murals on every wall and a taco truck on every other corner. Kids sell zines from porches. Retirees walk pit bulls in track suits. There’s always something slightly off and completely perfect about it.
