Burnside Ladies Tee

Burnside doesn’t just run east to west, it splits the whole damn city in two. Born from wagon tracks and shady deals, this boulevard once boozed harder than it breathed, home to flophouses, jazz dives, and a reputation that could pick your pocket and charm your grandma. It’s where the city sobered up just enough to put in a Powell’s, but never lost its edge. From the neon glow of the Burnside Bridge to the strip club next to the record store next to the artisanal donut shop, Burnside is Portland’s bipolar soul — gritty, weird, and alive.

But before it was neon signs and dive bars, it was B Street, an unremarkable mud track. Enter David W. Burnside, a whiskey distributor turned city visionary, who helped push a street grid and naming system that actually made sense — and named this one after himself. Bold move.
